Revolutionary Cultures: EPISODE 1

Cuban Internationalism

This episode of REVOLUTIONARY CULTURES focuses on Cuban internationalism, particularly its medical internationalism and the Henry Reeve brigades. The discussion features Dra. Michele Santana, currently Deputy Director of the Central Medical Collaboration Unit who has also served Cuba’s missions in Africa, and also Dr. Rubén Martinez Artiles, a clinical physician who was part of the Henry Reeve brigade that led the response to the COVID-19 emergency in Italy. We are also joined by His Excellency Hugo Ramos, Cuba’s Ambassador to Ireland. The programme discusses the long history of Cuba’s revolutionary humanitarianism and the more recent valiant efforts of Cuban medics in battling the COVID-19 pandemic across the world. The discussion also address the effects of the illegal US blockade of Cuba and its people, as well the campaign against it and the ways in which the people of the world can reciprocate the unparalleled solidarity shown to humanity by Cuban revolutionaries. Despite the imperialist blockade, Cuba’s incredible revolutionary commitment has ensured that, as Noam Chomsky has said, “Cuba is the only country to have shown genuine internationalism during this coronavirus crisis”. ¡Viva Cuba! ¡Viva la Revolución Cubana!
